My Story

My CDH Hero is now 2 1/2 Years old and we count our blessings every single day that she survived. Every CDH family knows the roller coaster journey we all face, the uncertainty of our unborn babies survival and the wave of every emotion possible leading up to giving birth. The journey we have to endure from the moment they are taken from us at birth not knowing if you will ever get to watch them grow.

It was 5 hours for us until we even got to see our daughter. She had severe Rt sided CDH. Within 12 hours we were given the devastating news she was so poorly they needed to transfer her to Birmingham for ECMO for any chance of survival. However they also doubted she would survive the hospital transfer. Close family were called in to meet Georgia and we had her christened in Sheffield Childrens hospital whilst awaiting the ambulance for her transfer.

Against all odds our baby made the journey to Birmingham and was immediately put onto ECMO, she had her sugery to repair the hernia and move the organs back to where they should be at 12 days old and she continued to thrive day after day. She is my absolute CDH Hero and smashes every goal set. She is off all drugs and leading a just perfect life with her other siblings.

So why am i doing this... I have done other challenges to raise money for CDH and vowed I would always set out to raise money for the charity as without them and the money raised for research, I know Georgia would not have survived. I was one of the lucky ones and I never take that for granted however it happens far too often where babies do not survive this condition. So I will continue to raise funds as long as I am able so research can be done to help other families get through this devastating condition and hopefully prevent as many deaths as possible.
